View Full Version : Where Do I Find Element Translations?
Ok, I need to know where I can find a list of the abbreviations w/ names of all of the elements, particularly the trace elements that we often discuss on this forum. Some of us forget that many people(in a lot of instances, myself included) have a difficult time translating the letters/numbers etc., into the actual elements. When someone says you need to dose with KNO3 I now know that that means Potassium Nitrate, but I didn't always know that, and there are many times when I have no clue what you dudes are talking about. Anyone know of a list......

That AB article is useful, but keep in mind that P is actually Phosphorus - PO4 is Phosphate. Also it did not mention a few others you will see fairly often such as (I know there are others, but they are not coming to mind):
NH3 - Ammonia
MgSO4 - Epsom Salt
CaCO3 - Calcium Carbonate
NaHCO3 - Baking Soda
For the really technical sometimes those forumulae are oversimplifications, but they are what most folks go by and are good enough for gardening.
I sent a note about the P thing to the site maintainer.
[edit - corrected error]
NH3 is Ammonia
NH4+ is Ammonium ion
NaHCO3 is sodium bicarbonate, also known as baking soda.
Na2CO3 is sodium carbonate
Baking powder is a mixture of ingredients.
