Hello,
My Alk is a little high and my PH is a little low 7.9 ish. Can I raise PH without alk? I have this stuff called marine buff but it also raises alk from what I can see. Would Kalkwasser work?

You will want the alkalinity to still be a little higher. This isnt a measure of the PH alkalinity but rather how much acit it will take to swing the PH. I have never had a problem with PH so not sure if that will work for you or not.

Are you in a cycle? What is your salinity? What are other water parameters? At what time did you measure the PH?

Just finished a cycle. latest test

Nitrites 0
Ammonia under.25 (it came up 0 2x and .25 once in 3 tests)
Nitrates .20
PH 7.9
Alk 250
SG 1.021(I am going to raise this to 1.023)with the next water change)

I took the measurements at 11 am after the lights were off for 18 hours

The PH will be naturally low with the lights off that long measure it during the middle of the day.

Ok it looks like 8.0 now. Nothing to be concerned about?

umh, I don't know if you're raising inverts in your tank or not but if you are you probably don't want to change your s.g. that much at one time. I'd go for a real slow change your fish and inverts would like that a lot better.

Thanks for the tip. I don't have anything in there yet. I am making last minute adjustments before my new pets come in tomorrow.

When you say adding your pets how many and what do you plan on adding? Be carefull what order and how many fish you add as this could cause water to have a spike in amonia.

As long as the cycle is just over (1-5 days) and you cycled with a large ammonia source (2-3 rotting shrimp) you will be fine adding fish to a reasonable stocking level immediatly. You will have more than needed in the biological filter from the shrimp.

No fish yet just a cleaning crew and 4 shrimp. I cycled the tank with 60 lbs of live rock and just added 20 lbs of live sand. I am going to do 10% water changes every third day, then add fish after a couple weeks.
