I'm moving everything from my old 55g reef to the new 180g reef and I was wondering if there was any need to acclimate to the new lights. The new tank has 1520watts, so 8.5w/g. The old tank has 410 watts, so 7.5 w/g. Close enough?

The new 180g has three 400 watt 10,000k Ushio metal halides and two 72" 160 watt Actinic VHO.

The old 55g has two 175 watt Ushio 10,000k halides and two 48" 30 watt actinics.

Was shooting for 8-10 watts per gallon, this setup was the best I could do without adding a 4th halide.

I just always hear that if you increase your lighting you need to acclimate. Well does that mean increasing total light which I have greatly, or does that mean watts per gallon which I haven't increased that much?

What might concern me more than total watts is what happens as the corals are rearranged when they get to the new tank. If a coral finds itself closer to a high-intensity light source than it used to be, it might not be so happy. You might want to start with the halides on a short photoperiod, and keep the actinics on a normal routine, and slowly increase.
