My 30g hex recently went through a fungas infection were I lost almost half the rainbows and 1 cory cat.:(
The tank was treated with mar-oxy and 1/4 cup salt per 10g. I'm pretty sure that the disease has run its course.(no deaths for 5 days)
All the rainbows were to go in my 125g once they became big enough, but I've heard that the fish that made it through the disease, can carry it for life. The rest of the rainbows will be big enough to go into the 125g in about a month.
Will these fish carry the fungus over to the 125g? The survivers show no signs of sickness and seem healthy(now.)
Thanks in advance for responding

How much do you know about the disease? I believe that a lot of fungi have a spore state and would stay present in your (and everyone's) aquarium. They usually only infect our fish when water conditions are poor or when they show up as a secondary infection as a result of some other sickness/injury/etc.
If it were me, I'd probably add them after I was sure the acute sickness was cured. However, I don't keep any fish that I consider priceless at this point...so I tend to be a little more loosey goosey...

I am still trying to find answer's on what actually killed my fish! There was no physical damage and the fish that did die never showed signs(still ate, active ect..)The only thing I can think of is that the otto's I added to the tank(5th of dec)were carrying something. Even though I quarintined them for 2.5 weeks, and they seemed fine.
I started medicating the aquarium on the advice of a fellow fish keeper and noticed a improvement after the 1st day. There was only 3 deaths during the 5 days the fish were medicated and before that I had 3 deaths per day.So I still am not sure of the actual reason.
As for the water quality, I change and test(ammonia, nitrates,p.h)every week and have a diary of the test results. They were fine during the outbreak.Ammonia-0,rates-10,ph-8.2
The 125g is my main tank and I don't want my cichlids to get ill. Yet the rainbows left are 1.5"long and need more room!
How much is a UV ?
