If I trim the roots growing above the substrate, will this harm the plant? I know I've seen the answer b4 but after searching 5 pages I grew impatient.
Thanks.

Perfectly normal. Yes, you can trim them off without hurting the plant.

I haven't maintained my hygro the way I wish I had. My hygro's stem roots have gone into the substrate causing the stems to be pulled down and grow more horizontally than vertically. I have quite a jungle going on. At least the neons have a place to hide from the angels.

Thanks. Then I'm glad I pulled them all out and trimmed the roots. I used a clean cat litter pan filled 1/2 way with some tank water. Tried breaking the roots off with my fingers but broke a couple stems so I went with small scissors. They look much better and it wasn't too big a deal. What has my life been reduced too...trimming roots on a friday night? :D
