Any ideas as to what plants consume the most nitrate per volume? I'm planning out my next tank - it probably won't be heaviliy planted, but I'm thinking about incorporating a lighted sump that I could pack full of java moss or something to try to take some of the nitrates out of the water. Any suggestion for plants?

Fast growing stem plants- anachris, water sprite, hygrophilia, etc.

For submerse plants, I'll second Cearbhaill's suggestions. But you might also consider emerse plants (depending on space available), as they tend to be free of algae issues and have no dissolved CO2 issues. The easy ones there are Pothos and Spathiphyllum.
