My mom has some shells she found that she wants to put in my tank. They were found in salt water though and I am worried that putting them in will mess with my water conditions. Would it be ok to put them in, is there a special way to clean them or anything? Thanks in advance.

Only real worry with shells is having them affect the pH (raising). I haven't had any issues at all using salt-water shells/driftwood in my tanks... usually soak them for 10 minutes and then put them right in... a little sea salt once in a while helps fight disease.

i had large beach pebbles that i put in my tiger barb tank and i just let them soak in water for a couple days and then rinsed em off. try doin that and bleaching them with 1 part bleach and 20 parts water. and rinse well u dont want bleach left over inside the shell.
