Goldfish that can't stay submerged. I have 2 black fish - I forget what they are called, but they are in the goldfish family. They are having trouble staying submerged. I have heard of something were they get air in their system..... is there anything I can do for them. The tank has been setup for a while, it's a 44 gallon with about 8-10 fish in it. Fish have been doing very well for the last 6 weeks.
Help!

Do a search of the AC forums and on Google for "swim bladder disease." You'll find a lot of information -- see if the symptoms match what you are seeing in your goldfish. Here's one page on swim bladder troubles to get you started.

The primary cause of floaters in Goldfish is food intolerance.
More info here.
First thing to try is feeding only shelled peas for a couple of days, and thereafter soak any dry or prepared foods well before feeding.

There are a whole host of other factors implicated in floaters- often times the cause is never 100% certain- the link above is full of good information.

thanks

Thanks, I will check into these. These are actually my mom's fish. I noticed last night that 2 of them would go to the bottom and then immediately float up, like they were full of air. They seem okay today. But I will see if she's changed the food or anything and will check into the link. Thanks a bunch! :)
