I'm thinking of buying a PFO ballast to run either a 75 or 95W VHO bulb. Are these ballasts any good?

TIA

As far as tar ballasts go, yes PFO's are good. However, you'd be better off with a nice electronic ballast, like the ones from Icecap.

agreed. get yourself a good electronic ballast. They dont need starters, are quiet, are more efficient, and dont usually cost that much more.

Fulham, Icecap, and GE ballasts are all great.

GE ballasts can be found at home depot (you need to know what your looking for)

fulham ballasts can be found at www.happyreefing.com (go to www.fulham.com for wiring diagrams and info)

and Icecap ballasts can be found at www.marinedepot.com

I thought the PFO ballasts were Electronic? At least thats how they were labelled at the site that I was looking at(http://jlaquatics.com/cgi-bin/store.cgi?page=lightparts-fl.shtml&&cart_id=3333740_1952).

I did think about getting a Icecap, but with 430 costing $230 Canadian + tax it's not going to happen.

Slip, What exactly would you look for at HD to find the GE Ballasts?

That ballast looks huge to me though...
