I am going to set up a ten-gallon aquarium to put my extra plant clippings in. Do you know of some interesting fish I could keep in it? I don’t want to keep anything like neon tetras, zebra danios, cory cats or anything that you would usually keep in a ten gallon tank. I want some fish that are unusual and interesting. I would also prefer an egg laying fish that the parents take care of the fry. Do you have any ideas?

Maybe some gouramies.

Pair of apistos.
Killifish (don't practice brood care though)

Faramir, I was thinking of apistos but I couldn’t find very much info on them. Do you know where I could get some more info?
NJ Devils Fan, I already have gouramies in our 75-gallon aquarium so I would like something a little different.

There is also (who'd a thunk it) apistogramma.com (http://apistogramma.com/).
There are a lot of varieties in the anabantid family. Wild bettas, chocolate, croaking, or licorice gouramis are all on the somewhat exotic side of the coin. They're harder to find, but they all have followings: you should be able to find local breeders or possibly be able to order them. They'd all appreciate a well-planted tank and I think most do parental care. Worth a look.
