Protecting Ghost Shrimp

I recently bought some ghost shrimp the other day and I want to get a small terra cotta flower pot to help protect them. My question is: how should I wash it to put in my tank, or would it be okay just to put in their straight from the store?

I would rinse it off with hot water to be safe, but there shouldnt be anything toxic on it.

Get a new one--the used ones can leach chemicals if fertilizer was used on them. Otherwise, rinse to remove any dust, and it's good to go.
