View Full Version : How often do you re-vamp your tank deco?
i used to move stuff around alot becuase i would learn more and more tricks to make it look cool, but my barbs got so scared of people if you came in teh room they would all dash for the nearest cave.
i have found that the least you mess with your tank the best, the plant roots get damanged when ya move them around, and the fish just see this giant eel chasing them around they are liek AAAH!
althought perhaps they like the new deco cuz they think they are somewhere differnt?
i know gerbils love new toys, they run over and begin eating anything you put in there like toilet paper rolls they love to eat

I usually move stuff around when the fish eat all my plants! AAAAHHH! I have to buy more! Might as well move some stuff around!
I rarely move stuff- I add plants sometimes.

None of the above, every few years for minor renewal, about every 10 years for major re-do.

I remove all the decorations just about every other water change, but they always go back where they were.

Once i set up my tank i dont' usually move stuff around too much. I figure out how i'm going to have it decorated and rearange things before i add any water. Since i started i have only changed 2 tanks. One got a BBA infestation and i took out all my plants and redid it with driftwood and the other was a crafish tank and when he died i changed the decorations around and added fish.

I rarely move stuff around once the tank is fully stocked. If I am adding territorial fish to an established tank, I will rearrange the tank so everybody has to redefine their territory. That way the new guy can get a spot.
I will also rearrange if I have stocked a tank with very small fish that will get to be large. Right now my Texas Cichlid is only 3" and he is the largest thing in the tank. I have a lot of small caves and stuff. When they get bigger I will cut down on the number of caves and ledges, but make them bigger.

I'm in the process of figuring out a setup that allows my kuhli loaches to feel comfortable and be where I can see them! so I mess around with things every two weeks or so... usually by adding more plants and moving rocks.

Every time I do a water change my decor changes a bit. a rock moves from here to here, let's see how this looks for a while, and so forth. I don't do a full deliberate change unless I'm taking something out of the tank.

We just moved to a new house... We try not to move things much at all.

When I do a water change some plants get torn out, some were eaten by a fish and I want to tear them out. I add some plants from time to time too. So about once or twice a month, but only during the waterchanges.
