Is fin rot a disease or a side effect of a disease/deteriorating water conditions

I heard it's a fungus, just that i've been losing many guppies to it due to the agression of my serpae tetra, which absolutely love to shred up the long flowing caudal fins.

How can I treat it, if possible?

Could you separate the serpae tetras from the guppies?

Heck yeah it'll kill em. Get the tetra out. Then get some Marydal meds for fin rot. But, doesn't sound like fin rot, sounds like fin nip. Get some stresscoat and they should be fine depending on the how severe the damage is. Gonna take time for them to grow back.

too late for that
my guppies died soon afterwards (you know, about two days)

where do i put the tetras? i have a 10 gallon that has guppies in it too ahha
what if i bought another 6 lets say? would they be more peaceful? And will the long finned varieties mix with the shorter fin ones?

Any time the slime barrier is breached, there is the good chance for entry of bacteria and parasites.

Salt will stimulate the slime coat. Water changes will reduce bacteria and parasites. But nippers need to not be with long finned peaceful fish.

My serpae are fine with cardinals --- they can't catch them.
