I just noticed one of my amanos was very preggers yesterday. I scooped her out of the community tank and put her in her own 2 gallon hex (I'd love to put her in bigger but its all I've got.)

I did a search here and found Wilma's site that RTR recommended which helped a lot. My biggest question now is: How do I know if the eggs are fertilized or not?

This is the first time I noticed that she looked gravid. There's a big green mass under her belly between all her legs. She's separated now but obviously that won't do any good if the eggs aren't fertilized. So, should I add another amano to the hex? I can't tell who's a male and who's a female. I would have thought the males were bigger but this gravid one is one of the larger ones in the tank!

Wow! Great article, RTR!

After reading this I think my female has been fertilized. I believe you mentioned you've had some success breeding Amanos, RTR. How did you handle salinity?

Currently I've just added a half tablespoon of aquarium salt to the 2g tank. I'm wondering if I need to add a sea salt mix once the shrimp hatch and the mother is removed or if I can just add more aquarium salt.

Aquarium salt will not get it. It has to be marine mix. You need the buffers, Ca/Mg, and likely the iodide -probably the whole variety of things.

My feeble attempts were at lower salinity than the latest find on breeding articles - perhaps development would have been faster if I had used higher densities, but I will not have tank space for another trial for some months - those tanks are currently occupied by other true FW shrimp breeding trials.
