I came home tonight and did a 20% water change, fed them, then left. When I came home 1 fish was dead(serapae tetra) with no noticable signs of any thing wrong. I then noticed on my festivum what looks like slime hanging off his dorsal fin and what maybe a bump(2 scales are darker) about 1/4" below. In some places the slime looks like hair with bubbles on it. I just put in some feeder danios 2 days ago and thats the only thing I've added to the tank. Amm. and nitrite were at 0.0 and ph is same as always. I just moved all the fish into this tank 55 gal about a week ago and have had no problems. They have all seemed pretty happy in their new home( they were a little cramped before). I don't see anything on any other fish and they are all active and seem fine. This is the first time I've lost a fish in a long time 1 1/5 years at least. I would have pic but my photo gallery isn't uploading from my camera for some stupid reason.

If anyone has any thoughts I would greatly appreciate them.

In the tank
2- peppered? corys
2- gold barbs(one looks preg)
2- buenos aires tetras
1- bristlenose pleco
1- festivum
1- serapae tetra( now dead)
15?- feeder danios
I have had all these fish for at least 2 years except the corys and pleco(them about one year)

Was the tank cycled? Are the danios from the same old place same old store? What's the amonia? How did you cycle thge new new tank? Sounds like it may be going through it's cycle nwo and your fish are caught in the middle. More info. ph gh kh all of it. ASAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My Q thank isn't ready yet. The tank is cycled. I fishless cycled it. I got the feeder at the same lfs that I get all my fish( only one other in town besides wal-mart and it's horrible)
ammonia- 0
nitrite - 0
ph 7.8( hasn't changed)
will check kh now

only have gh test 200 ppm
Camera really starting to get on my nerves:mad2

How did you cycle your new tank. My preference when going from an old tank to new is use 40% water from the old some of the old gravel and at least on old filter, provided you have more than one filter. This sounds like dropsey. What else is in the tank? Any symptoms there? White slime, swimming on thier sides? Let me know. Also, a huge ph swing may be in the mix.

I fishless cycled it. Put all plants, decorations , and filter from old tank during the last days of nitrite spike. Used Prime to help(i wouldn't think that would hurt anything would it? I've heard real good things about it.
No white slime. I didn't see anything wrong with fish that died. I looked it over pretty good with a flashlight.

I'm setting my old tank up( but I did leave old gravel in there) Should I move him to it? I can stick the same filter back on it and its already heated.

It all seems to come back to the water change. You did treat for chlorine, I'm assumimg(you know what they say about that).

Is this a brackish tank? 200 is a bit high on the gh but not too bad. Something has happened that has caused your fish to lose it's slime coat. That is what you are seeing as the hair like stuff with bubbles. If you have some stress coat, treat now. What did you change filter-wise? Something changed and it's effecting them. Maybe it's the fish you got. Not likely, but you have to look at all sources. There is a common denomenator here, we just need to find it.

I'm outta stress coat(thought prime would replace it). The only thing i can figure is that I didn't use enough prime to dechlorinate the water or didn't mix it up after I put it in. I was planning on getting a couple more corys tomorrow but thats on hold.

I'll get some stress coat in the morn and see if that helps

Prime is good but not sure if that will help the fish, it's more of a detox than anything. Go get some stresscoat and lets see how you end up in the morning.

Good Luck!!
