ok since i havnt had a sump before im counting on a little help here. i have a 135 gallon tank, 6 foot x 18 inches x 26 inches i think. it has one inch and a half bulkhead in it. im going to build an overflow box for it. my question is, what pump should i have for the return, im not sure about any of that. the drain is 1 1/2 inch bulkhead, will drain down 1 90 degree angle and 2 45 degree angles, into my sump. it looks like the biggest thing ill be able to put under the stand is a 45 gallon long tank. when it pumps back to the main tank it will have to go about 5 feet up with 2 45 angles. then about 6 inches horizontally with 3 90 degree angles. i dont know how to calculate the loss of gph with the height and the turns. also what is the max i could pump that the 1 1/2 inch overflow will be able to drain efficeintly? what would be the best size pvc to use for the return to the main tank? i really dont know how to calculate all that into the makings of one pump!! im not looking for 1350 gph out of the pump. ill add powerheads to the main tank to help with the circulation. i just didnt want to end up with a pump thats puumping more water than my drain can handle, or one that only produces about 50gph. any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!!!

All you will need to know is the total height you will be going up. The bends will not cut down in the GPH. So if it’s 5 feet from the floor to the top of your tank then that’s what you need to know. You should check the chart on the pump manufacture to see how much of a loss you will get with there pumps. It depends on the propeller housing and type of propeller to how much of a drop you will get in height.

Yes as long as you use 1 1/2” pipe it will drain a lot of water I don’t know how much of the top of my head.
