of course i would want my temp,sg,ph,n2,ne,ammonia correct, etc also, but i want to make sure that there will be sufficient food for them to start out with....

thanks

Add 'em- then feed 'em!

If you are wanting them to eat leftover food you have to wait until you are feeding fish. But they are so entertaining, and most folks want something in there as soon as possible to watch.
I wouldn't add anything dependent on algae growth, but shrimps and hermits will eat anything you offer them.

what and how often to feed?

i can only imagine that you want your water perfect first as well right?

we are getting there................soon...........
yes im looking foward to "something" being there, but dont want it to be fatal for them..........i want them to be healthy in my environment........
thanks

Once your ammonia and nitrites hit zero for 2-3 weeks it will be safe to add a few creatures- it pushes the biological filter just barely enough to keep it growing. You will have already made a habit of keeping tabs on temp, pH, SG- practice some decent observation and you'll be fine. Just add them a few at a time and research them well before shopping.

Then comes the test of your ability to not overfeed :D:D:D
