I got three yesterday, 1 male and two females.

they are in the 55 gallon tank with 4 variatus platies+babies#?, 4 khuli loaches, 5 ottos, and 4 albino tetras.

there is various fake plants in there to make different areas.

my question is would another male be a bad idea

the other thing I am wondering is do they need a small dither type fish to feel comfortable? they are still quite jumpy and don't parade around the tank like I had thought they would

No. They do not need dither fish. As a matter of fact, small, fast moving fish tend to freak them out pretty badly.

Another male could very well work out fantastically. It could, however, end up not being too good. It depends on the fish...kind of like bettas. I only have 2 males in my 55. One is dominant, one is submissive but they *never* fight, nip, or anything. They get along wonderfully. With 2 females, you could probably give them enough to do other than bother the other male though.

They're beautiful fish. Wait until they are full grown. You will not believe the finnage the males will develop. I was just marveling over how long my males' fins are getting today. Maybe I'll post some pics tomorrow.

I wouldn't expect them to really "parade" around the tank though. Mine are pretty quiet and prefer sitting somewhere quiet and hidden in the tank. They're extremely peaceful and laid back and just kind of want to hang out.

thank you, I've had expirience with how blue gouramis act but not the pearls.
