Dark Substrate for neons

Do I need a dark substrate for neons? I currently have natural colored substrate.

No, your is fine. Neons do like the tank to be a bit darker then some other fish.

my neons have bright gravel
I put black fabric around 3 sides of my tank...their colors tripled in brilliance

I"m switching to black sand, I thinkt eh darker your "stuff" is the more brillinat their colors will be

I agree, neons do enjoy a darker tank. Dark surroundings have tended to enhance the colors of most the fish I have owned.

Makes sense to me since they are found in tanin filled black waters of So. Amer.
