Need Goldfish Help

In my grandma's minibow 2.5, as you have probably heard about, is a fantail goldfish that has a mix of orange and white all over his body. He is pretty small, under 1" and he has a tankmate of another fantail goldfish with the coloring of a shubunkin and the same size.
The goldfish I mentioned first has something wierd on him. It looks like a 1/3" brown string hanging from his tummy. I should be able to post a pic later. I don't think I have the genders wrong, but on goldfish I don't know how to tell. Could this fish be getting ready to spawn? Lay eggs? Or anything related?

It sounds like it might be last nights dinner. Your goldfish is too small to start breeding just yet.

The goldfish will never get large enough to breed in such conditions, no need to worry about that. ;)

They won't breed or live very long in those conditions. Get at least a 20gal for them or take them back.
