OK! so, this is the story: i was at pet smart a couple weeks ago, and a pair of texas cichlids had a bunch of fry. today i went in, and asked if they were going to sell the, and found out they were being fed to the oscars, because they needed the tank space.

So, i got 6 texas cichlid fry now residing in my tank, seperated from the other fishies. I wasnt expecting to get them so small, they're 1/4-1/2 inch! I dont know what to do with them!!

what do i feed them? please help! im at a loss!

try grinding up some cichlid food flakes.the best way to do that:put some flakes in a plastic bag, make sure to let all the air out and rub your fingers or anything (i used al ighter)across the bag, turning the flakes into a fine powder.to feed the fry, just dip a toothpick in tank water, wipe the access water of with your fingers and dip into food powder and put into tank.
my lfs told me to feed them shrimp brine but my fish were to little to eat them.might be worth a try to get some cause they will eat it later,if they can't now.
hope this helps a little and good luck

Feed them often because they can't eat enough at one time to get all the nutrition they need. Do a lot of water changes too because with all of the feeding the nitrates are going to hit the roof. They will grow fairly quickly. Good luck! :)

Feed them whatever will fit in their mouths and they can open them wider than you think. Watch the smallest in the group and make sure his little tummy is full. If he can eat it, the bigger ones won't have any problem. Brine shrimp is good and I've had good luck with freeze-dried tubifex. Break off a piece of the cube, soke it in aquarium water and kind of mash it around to help break apart the worms. The diameter isn't bad, but some may be a little long. Anything you can crumble or they can break off works well

The best thing for my convict fry are San Fransisco's Frozen Baby Brine Shrimp, 50g size in the light blue package. Just drop a whole cube in and they'll find it and eat it up.
