is 6 degrees dkH ok for my aquarium. i have a 37 gallon with one java fern, 1 gourami, 5 platys, 6 danios, 5 tetra, 4 corys, 4 snails, and some ghost shrimp.

Anything above 3 is considered good KH, Below 3 and you run the risk of ph crashes do to a lack of buffering.

More specifically, 3dKH is considered the minimum acceptable level for CO2 injection without KH suplemantation.
What daveedka is saying is that below 3 in a non-planted tank, you need to be extra diligent with water changes. Not that having a higher KH is licence for negligence. ;)
