Change or rinse media?

With Bio-Wheel filter, are you changing the media cartridge whenever it gets dirty or simply rinsing it in siphoned tank water?

I guess the carbon would wear out if it were only rinsed, but I'm not convinced the carbon's necessary.
 
Well...to avoid the "great carbon debate", you can decide whether or now you need carbon. If you don't need it, you can rinse the cartriages. If you do need it, the life of the carbon is probably only a few days to a couple of weeks max. So you'd have to change your cartriages frequently.

my PERSONAL preference is to simply rinse until I feel the media really needs to be replaced.
