I have a 37 gallon FO tank... here is the current stock

2 small false percula clowns 1.5 inches
1 bi color dwarf angel 3.5 inches
1 cleaner shrimp
1 camel shrimp
1 blood shrimp
1 small spiney blue lobster 1.5 inches

Well i thought i was pretty much stocked with all that when the wife came home with a Blue tang (small 1.5 inches)... ahhh.. told her we could not get one but does she listen.. hell no... lol...

I am running a emperor 280 for filtration and have a bubble wand in to try and airate the water... I just purchased a skilter 250 to add onto the tank... We are getting a 90-125 gallon (not sure which one yet) this Christmas from her parents.. What is the best thing i can do to keep everything alive until then?

Here are my current water conditions
ammonia 0ppm
nitrite 0ppm
nitrate 10-20 ppm
ph 8.2

The best thing to do is to take the Blue Tang back to the fish store and see if they'll let you return it or get store credit.

A Blue Tang is WAY too big, even as a juvenile, to have in a 37gal. tank especially with all the other inhabitants that are already in there.

Called them.. they will gladly take the Tang back but will not give me any money back or store credit.. so i would be out 40 bucks.. the tang is very small... about the size of a quarter... I would like to try and keep all of them if possible for the next 5 months in this tank.. sigghhhh wish the wife would have listened.

That sucks about the fish store...sorry they wont at least give you store credit.

I suppose you could try to keep him, is he's as small as you say he is. Tangs, from my experiance, grow pretty quickly, but he may be ok in there for 5 months or so.

Well don't have that problem anymore.. came home today and my bi-color angel was laying on its side and would not move.. it was still breathing but would not make any attempt to move.. I decided to put him out of his suffering.. :( Only had him 3 days and that fish store does not have a guarantee.. i think i am going to stick to the new fish store i found.. they are about 15% more expensive but they have a guarantee and they also quarenteen all their fish before sale.

Sounds like a good idea. I am always willing to pay the extra money at a place I trust.

I like the place that i bought the fish from.. they are really helpful, very clean and have been around since 1920.. They are a small store out in the middle of nowhere but they go through fish like you would not believe.. people wait for the deliveries and take them home in the bags they were shipped in... they get their shipment on friday and by wed 90% of the fish are gone.. they do not quarintine at all.. This other place is in charlotte (Fintastic) very high end fish store.. they are a bit more expensive but when they get their fish they hold them in the back for a min of a week (my tang was there 1 month) and they make sure they are ok and eating and guarantee their fish.. Not as friendly staff but definatly a high end operation. I am sure people in my area have herd of them.

Their turn over may be a lot of the problem. IME you'll be better off if you can find a lfs that keeps their stock for a week or two before selling. Lots of S.W. fish really don't deal well with shipping stress ," beware of ich with that tang". It is probably pretty hard for the store to say where it's fish and other critters come from and what method of capture was used. Some collectors in use thing like cyanide to stun fish and ship off the survivors and near survivors to the lfs. I'm not saying that's what happening with the poison just a worst case scenario. One of my lfs has been in business since the 50's and if you want fresh water they are the place to go but salt well.... . Also I don't know if you have or not but, I'd set up a quarantine tank asap.

Yeah, its been said before, but that tang will get WAY too big for a 37g. I work at my lfs, and customers always come in and buy these little tiny Regal Blues (about the size of a quarter, like yours), thinking that they don't grow much. They get big. You could keep it for a while, and when it gets too big, take it back. At least your money wouldn't be wasted, then.

Well now i am at a loss.. Yesterday the dwarf angel died... last night the 2 clowns and the tang were doing great.. i fed them a few pieces of flake food and they took it fine.. the clowns accually came and ate it out of my fingers.. This morning i wake up at 5 am and look in the tank and one of the clowns is sitting on the bottom of the tank and the tank is sucked up against my powerhead. :( i get her off the powerhead and she is barely swimming... the other clown is alive just laying on the bottom... I tested the water

ph8.1-8.2
ammonia 0ppm
nitrite 0ppm
nitrate 10-20ppm
1.023

Now i don't know what to think.. water conditions are fine but they still look like they are dying.
