Nice to see the forum back.

Anywho where are my issues.

1) My water seems to be nice a clear, except for what looks like little oil patches on the surface. I do not put my hands it and nothing has gone into the tank in a while. They look like little amebas(sp) and the surface of the water is full of it. Anyone have any idea what it could be or what could be causing it? I hope to get home and test the water again and see if I see anything funky.

2) My betta isnt doing so well. Seems he has popeye though i am not sure the best cure for him is. I do have a small fish bowl I can quanantine him in if that would help he currently shares a 20gal take with 3 gourmies, 4 guppies and a pearl snail.

Filtration is a Fluval 204, water changes are done frequently as well as watertop offs due to the warm weather. I did have a fourth gourmie but the other fish ganged up on him and eat him to pieces. They would all (other than the guppies) nip at his tail, fins etc to there was nothing left.

Comments, suggestions etc always welcomed.

Thanx!

Sorry, couldn't resist :D

I remember a long while back someone else had the 'oil slick' on the top of their water, but I can't for the life of me remember what they did to fix it... hopefully someone can help you out.

As far as your poor betta, yes, I'd take him out of the main tank and put him in the goldfish bowl (as long as it's not tiny). Since he has apparent pop eye (or some other illness), he is not 100%, and could end up getting ganged upon by the other fish (survivial of the fittest, as evidenced by the eating of your 4th gourami). Fresh water will go a long way - 90% every day. If you can get your hands on Melafix, get some... imho it's a miracle cure all. If not, you can add a bit of salt into the water (~1 teaspoon). Keep the temp stable around 78ish.

Good luck, I hope he gets better!
