This is my first tank and I have had it up for about 5 months. I did a complete cleaning today and guess what I found. That's right. One little baby. I am guessing that there are a few more and most of them have been eaten by this point, but that is just my guess. They are from my Colbalt zebras. I just left him in there with the others. If he lives he lives. Is that bad of me to think that way? If it does live, what should I be putting in the tank for food?

No thoughts anyone? He is still there and is getting bolder; coming farther and farther out of the rocks everyday.

I have always have a few babies in my african tank. If i dont' want to raise the babies i leave the mom in the tank to spit. That way most will probably get eaten and if a few live i can always scope them out when a bit bigger.

FOr the fry in my main tank i dont' feed them anything special. They get whatever i put in the tank for the bigger guys. They grow a bit slower then when i raise them in their own tank but they eventually(in a few weeks) get big enough to start eating the regular foods i throw in the tank.

So if you want you can feed the baby special foods(crushed flake would probably be the easiest). But i always just let the " survival of the fittest" come into play and dont' really bother with any special treatment and they do fine. Right now i have about 5-6 fry in my main tank that got away from me when i tried to net them out.

Next time if you want to raise the babies, net the mom and put her in her own tank untill she spits the babies. its much easier caring fo rthe fry in their own tank.
