After 10 days in the caribbean, its nice to be home. It seems like whenever I leave, disaster strikes. Last year when I left, there was the blackout. This year, florida gets smacked bad. I wonder what will happen if I go away next year. Anyway, its going to take some getting used to these new forums. Looks sharp, hope its a fresh start.

Well welcome back! :dance

... Where at in the Caribbean did you go? Was this a cruise or did you fly in? Just this past April I went on a 7 day cruise to the southern Caribbean islands. It was a great trip, and while I was glad to be back home, I also wondered about real estate on the island of Saint Lucia... hey, its always a possibility after retirement!

For the most part, people are so darn friendly down there. It seemed like someone was always wanting to start up a conversation with me, and they weren't all trying to sell me something either.

I hope your trip was most enjoyable.

It was a cruise on the Royal caribbean cruise line. We went to a private part of haiti that is owned by royal caribbean, then to jamaica, grand cayman island, and bahamas. I had a lot of fun, but everyone felt the same way, we would have liked to stayed at each place a little longer. I mean, we would dock and be able to leave at like 8 am, but had to be back on the boat at like 3:30. It was like 1 excusrion and the day at the particular place was over. I did pick up a swarovski crystal blue betta at one of the stores on grand cayman island. We also swam with the stingrays which was amazing, probably the highlight of the trip.

All the cruise lines severly limit the time you spend off the boat. The more time you are on the cruise liner the more time you have to spend money on the cruise liner.

Too bad too. That's the one thing that keeps me from ever taking one of those cruises.

I've only been to the carribean once, but it was amazing. I spent 10 or 13 days... I don't remember which backpacking around belize. well, not really backpacking, but the only bags we had were 1 backpack each. But we took water taxis hopping around the cayes. Backpacking sounds so cool though:P

I haven't ever been on a cruise, I really want to go though. really really wnat to. reeeeeeally. Wanna take me with you some time? I'm umm, an orphan, and I live in a cardboard box... with a laptop and DSL ;)

We also swam with the stingrays which was amazing, probably the highlight of the trip.
Swimming with the sting rays is definitely cool. That and the diving were the highlights of my trip. I got my open water scuba certification at caye caulker and went on... I believe it was 7 dives. The reefs there are unbelievable. next time you go to the carribean, look in to visiting caye caulker. it's small and less touristy, but definitely cool.

Haha, this reminds me of a guy on caye caulker. he had this little lean-to he and his friend sat in all day every day smoking bud and listening to music and he'd run up to every american he saw and follow them down the street saying "Hey mon, you got a hotel, mon? I got a good place for ya right here. See that blue hotel, yah it's a great place mon, you can cancel you reservations, you know, great place right here" and no matter how much you said you had reservations across the island he's follow you about 150 yards then walk away grumbling, hehe. We nicknamed him Crack Man

Anyway, welcome back, and I am throughly envious of you ;) . We need a "green with envy" emoticon, hehe

This last time I went, I took a tour on one of the “party boats”. After the main ship docks, as you know they let you off the ship and you can take your own tours, etc. Those tours provided by the cruise line are expensive. I spent over $1,000 just on the tours. They were each like $80.00 - 100.00 each per person! So we went on one tour a day and that is $1400.00 for 2 people if each tour was 100 bucks. Anyway, I guess I am just expressing how expensive some of the activities are… cruises are not for the skimpy (tight-wads), but they are sure worth it in the end. :)

Welcome back!

Where're the pics...? :)
