Do all plants absorb roughly the same amount of nitrates? I'm guessing fast growing plants use more than slow growing.
Also, what other than nitrates do plants absorb?

I'm sure happychem and others can give you a better idea of the nutrients but plants absorb many things. Faster plants take in more nutrients, including nitrates, than slower growing ones. Nutrients include the major ones: Potassium, Nitrate and Phosphate and basically carbon in the form of CO2. Also smaller ones like magnesium, iron, etc. etc.
