he is in my q-tank....

this evening i noted that he appears to have tiny white spots on his fins and body.

ive only had him three days, eating well etc.......

at first it looked like tiny bubbles all over him, but now i dont think thats what it is..........

how do i figure out what it is and what do do about it? does this sound like ick or marine velvet?

thanks
sue

Do the spots stick out from the surface of the skin? Have any color?

Are you planning on putting the puffer in a reef setup?

when my tang got marine velvet, it looked more like a thin film on it then spots. orion girl gave me a website that helped quite a bit,,, but i cant seem to find it. ill try to post it later, if i can find it.

at first the spots looked like small air bubbles

they are tiny...and then they appeared to be on the fins as well..

its almost 9pm and i just got home from work.....hopefully i will get home at a "decent" time tommorow and get a better look....

as far as the reef tank goes, one book i have stated it would be ok and peaceful and another said that it might nip fins..

after i got it home and put him in my hospital tank i was having serious cold feet.

i dont have any shrimp in my reef tank (they like to eat those) but i wouldnt want blennie or my foxface to get hurt either......

im getting the vibe this is not a good fishie for my reef tank....but hes sooooooooooo cute..................................(but im finding out he is probably not as cute as he looks)

my lfs guy was saying that there is so much rock in my tank that he would probably be ok, lots of hiding spots........usually i trust him, but im wondering on this one

Puffers will also nip at corals, especially those with large polyps or tentacles. Puffers are not reef safe. None of them. At best, they can reduce your population of detrivores, but at worst, they can kill corals and injure other fish.
