I have done many searches and read most all the threads on here about angels. I was hoping to try a unique and different fish but have hit a big road block "scared to order from online" I will order plants and non-live products online but hesitate to order fish online. I was wondering about "themes" for my soon to be purchased 55 gallon tank was thinking angels as I have done well to keep my plants alive thus far in my 20 gallon tank. I live in asheville NC so if you live near by and have shellies and are willing to trade or sell please contact me or if you know of a club as the lfs owners don't know of one.
Help would be loved thanks

Johnny,
If you can possibly attend this gathering, it may well be worth your while. Folks bring in all kinds of fish and plants for sale or trade, and I know for a fact that some of these people have shellie tanks.

I will not be attending this gathering, but will be at the one in January. You will have a great time, I promise! I will contact the folks that will be attending and find out if they will be bringing any shellies. The owner of the store (named Bernie) where the gathering takes place may also have some in the store. You can also also ask Bernie to special order any other fish you are interested in and they will be there for you to take home when you get there!

One small snag with your angel idea (sorry) is they are bossy but also quite slow! they may well get fin nipped by your tiger barbs. Also one word of advice, Angels get bad press for bullying and killing other fish. The reality is they act as the mother of the tank so if you introduce new fish once he is established he will harrase and chase them often to the point of death! The way round this is if you introduce new fish, take the angel out first if you have a spare tank or even in a plastic box with a lid for a couple of hours. By the time you reintroduce him to the tank he wont realise anything is different.
Hope this is of some help to you!

angels aren't as mean as you make them out to be...i have a tank with discus and angels and the angels were established first. since then the alpha discus has put both angels in their place and i have not had any problems
