filter problems

Shekoi

Trying to start up again
i've just got a fluval 304 external filter for my large tank.
just a few problems
1) the filter makes alot of noise, is there something wrong? is sounds like something vibrating.
2) the inlet and outlet parts in the tank are joined together and because of the glass supports around the top of the tank the pipes have to go on an angle so that the hood doesn't fit, and the outlet is above the water line so makes even more noise.
is they any parts i could buy that solve these problems?

i could cut the hood, but would perfer not to.

cheers shekoi

I use the 304, and find it works perfectly. Although i had to lay into my hood with a saw! Have you checked the impella? this can be the cause of many problems! As for parts, the only other option is a scimmer for the intake. I don't think it will be much help! Also just to check, is the canister below the tank? can't think of anything else?!

got closer to the problem

i've looked at the filter closely today, it looks like the impeller is either loose and hitting the cover or just vibrating to much. it also doesn't seem to start up again once turn on, have to knock it to kick start it, as if the impeller is stuck on the cover.

has anybody experienced this?
what do i did to do?
the noise is very annoying, the tank is in the hallway so the whole house can now hear the filter.

as i was looking at it i broke the blue handles  on the side that hold the lid on :sad , once i switched it on the force of the water pushed the lid off pouring water all over the floor.   :thud: :mad2 :mad2
can this be fixed?
