im looking for some smallish (no bigger than tiger barbs, giant danios) common, rather cheap fish i can keep with my africans (i've decided not to go the way of controlled overstock and only keep a handful of fish, and as many or more dithers). any suggestions (60gallon tank)

I use rainbows in my 125 tanganyikan tank. I was given a pair of cyps, of a type I haven't been able to get a colony of, so I can't add more, and they weren't comfortable swimming around at all. I added 6 dwarf neon rainbows, a trio of boesmani, and a trio of herbertaxelrodi. The tank is super colorful and the fish wouldn't think of hiding. It works great. The dwarf neon (M. praecox) can usually be found reasonably priced if you shop around. One store here sells them for 10 dollars, another for 3.95, obviously they get them from different suppliers ( I hope ) :D
