I had an idea last night! :idea2: I've been wanting to set up a nano reef, er, more of a pico reef. about 2.5-5 gallons, for a new challenge, but haven't wanted to deal with multiple daily top-offs, etc, that are required with a small tank, so I thought I'd set up a 2.5 gal with a large sump, like 10-20 gal, maybe more like 30 if I custom build it, to provide more stability to water temp and salinity.
I am new to the reefing world though so I have a few ?'s.
1) Would 26 watts of 50/50 PC lighting be sufficient to keep most easy corals? I don't think I could get away with a 13w... or could I?
2) Would a protien skimmer be required or very beneficial to this system?
3) What corals should I start out with?
Thanks for all your help, and sorry about the newbish questions
Oh, also, I know small systems are more difficult to keep than larger ones, but I really like the look of nano-tanks and I have been wanting to build something, so I'm going to DIY everything. You can only add so many things to a planted tank
