Hi Guys and Gals!
I have been reading this site for a few weeks before I set up my SW tank. It has been the best help a newbie could use. I have a 75 Gallon SW setup that I bought used. It came with a Fluval 404 that isn't leaking. I was really worried after reading all the issues with them. The primer never worked and that was the only issue until now. After completely reading and testing everything I have a small issue. There seem to be alot of bubbles/small particles comming out of the discharge side of the pump and seems to be making the tank slightly foggy and not crystal clear. Before adding the fish this morning I used a Red Sea master test kit. PH, ALK, NH3/NH4, NO2 and NO3 were all in acceptable ranges. Except the alkalinity was a bit high. Not sure why the tank isn't crystal clear though. Could it be algae or something else from the used Fluval media? I asked the current owner if it needed to be changed and he said he didn't have it that long. So the only thing I did was add Filter Fiber to the bottom media tray and add 2 new Fluval foam pieces. It really isn't that bad but it just isn't crystal clear as I expected. Any suggestions would help.
Update:
Well I just turned off the pump and all the very small bubbles started to slowly go to the top.. So it seems it is not particles but oxygen. It just the pump causing too much oxygen. The Fluva 404 is for 75-100 gallons so not sure if something is wrong with it... Not sure. I will call the manufacturer.
Thanks,
George
