I just got my first Betta. I have always been into large south american fish but decided to give a nice betta a try. So far he is really fun to watch, they are not as boring as I expected. I was alos wondering how difficult it is to bread them... and what to do with the babies, ie. how long can they live before the males start to fight. Thanks for the help in advance.
Bettas are a lot of fun. They are full of personality and one of my all time favorite fish. I don't understand some people who say they are boring!
Breeding them isn't that difficult (though not necessarily easy either), but raising the fry on the other hand can be quite a chore. They can't go very long together before they start to fight, about 10 to 12 weeks. At that point you have to jar up all the males seperately. That means you either have dozens of small jars to do water changes and cleaning on daily, or you have to build an allaborate drip system to house them in.
You can use google to find a wealth of information on breeding them and building setups to grow out the fry
