I will be upsizing my community tank next month from a 66 gallon to a 135 gallon. It is well planted and stocked. Large pleco (12"), 2 kissing fish, 2 discus, 2 clown louch, 2 striped louch (?), catfish, upside down catfish, 2 glofish, 2 black ghosts, 2 neons, 2 cichlids, 1 goby, 2 swordfish, 5 hatchets, few tetra's and a few other's I can't think of right now. Now I need Help! How do I go about doing this and not murdering my fish? If you question the assortment of fish I have it is because I only started reading books on what fish should be mixed with other fish - according to the books I should be in trouble but my fish all seem quite happy - thats why the new tank - I want more! Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks....

I'm not really sure about all the behaviors of each of your fish, so I can't really comment on the compatibility. It is always possible for fish to be more territorial when they grow to adulthood or if two decide to pair.

As for what to add, I don't really want to suggest anything that may be a bad idea. What kind of cichlids do you have?

I have my african brown knife in with my cichlids. Not a problem if the knife has a cave or some place to chill during the day.

Sorry, you misunderstood my question. I was wanting to know what steps I should be taking in switching over my fish from the 66 gallon tank to the 135 gallon. Will transferring the water and the gravel from my smaller tank be enough to keep the tank working properly or is there something special I should be doing.

Also transfer the filter. That's where the majority of your bacteria are.

what type of cichlids other that the discus are going in to your new tank?

The only trouble I see is that the neons/glowfish/tetras may become food, and maybe the discus will get bothered by the other cichlids(what ever they are)The sword fish if m/f will provide food for the discus and anyone else that will eat them.

I would put your old filter on the new tank, also transfer over all of the substrate and plants and decorations and at least some water will also help the cycle of the new tank.
