Hey I'm planning on upgrading my tank in the future... hopefully within six months or so and I"m just doing some early, early research. What are some good sites for information, and to order from. I've checked out Big Als and Doc Foster and Smiths web sites. Are there any others that you would recammend I take a look at? I would like to do some price comparisons. It seems from what I've read so far Big Als is pretty much the lowest price around and decent service. I'm not on a time crunch so I'm not too worried that they take long just as long as I get all my stuff and I don't have a headache trying to get a hold of them to correct my order. I'll be needing pretty much everything that one needs to start a big tank. I'm hoping for a 90 gallon so keep in mind the stuff I might be buying. Is $480 too much to pay for a 90g All-Glass with Stand, and hood/light? It would all be brand new from a lfs. Thats the lowest I have found so far in my area.

I am currently looking at making a stand for a 75 gallon tank...
fishandtips.com has one idea for a stand that could be adapted to your tank size. often can make a stand for cheaper than buying one and you get to finish it the way you want it done. and you can make a hood to match
I would think you could put a system together for less than that... even if you don't make the stand yourself... I would be going with retrofit on the lighting anyway-planted tank freak here
come to think of it my whole planned 75 gallon planted with driftwood, co2 added top of the line ehiem filter is going to be in that ballpark of a price all said and done

It would be nice to be able to do it all myself, but I wouldn't even know where to start, and what to do. Beyond that I'm going to school right now so I woudlnt' even know when I would have the time to make anything. Obviously money is an issue thats why I'm asking for the diff. websites, but I can't seem to find anyone in my area that is selling anything above a 55 gallon. Who knows, hopefully by that time I'm looking for one somebody might, but I"ve kept my eye open to all the newspaper classifieds in the major cities in my state and haven't seen one yet, and thats over the course of several months now. I havn't gone much to the other lfs, so thats just a projected price right now, but yeah it does seem a little steep. If I bought everything that I want from Big Als and that tank/stand/light combo I'd be looking at around $600-700. 
If you want used, I would just keeping checking all of the usual discussion boards. There are some great classifieds on these sites. I am pretty sure I have seen a tank or two your way on piranha-fury. I got lucky and my lfs offered me a 75 gal with stand for a 100 bucks. I am his best dang customer anyway. You could always try that, go asked for used show tanks. As for that price you were quoted, that seems way up there. I was offered a 55gal with all but stand for 229 and a little bit more for a 75gal. It was brand new. I really like big al's, they have some great prices. Anyway, just thought I would throw some ideas your way. Good luck..Kev
