One of my new discus has "dents" on the top of its eyes, almost like it was bitten. It is doing fine now, except for these dents. Anyone know if these will heal?

A picture would help out if you can get one, just to be sure it's not an actual injury.

Most likely, it has what is called "chipped" eyes, which are actually a deformity and probably won't ever fill in. If you look closely at a fish with chipped eyes, you'll notice that it's not really chipped, but usually is just missing color in the iris part and the eye may not be perfectly round. It's a defect which, overall, IME doesn't effect fish health and is simply an undesireable trait; it's just not a fish you'd want to breed... other than that, if this is the case, he/she should grow up to still be a purdy fish ;).

I'll try to get a picture this week, as I have to get the digital camera from work. I did not notice the chipped eyes when I got it. In addition, its eyes were completely clear around the pupil, but now they are red where they are chipped. When I look at the fish from straight ahead, the "chips" have dark areas that look like scabs almost. Hopefully, they will grow back.
