powerfilters?

i just baught a 55gal kit at wal-mart (by far the cheapest place on this island) and it came with a external power filter (hang on back one). im new to the marine aspect of fishkeeping and was wondering if anyone uses these in a FOWLR?

i would use it. you will need mroe circulation, but that will definately help. i would take out all media though, and if you have an emergency you can pop in a cartridge with carbon in it.

I've thought about using one of those too but worried about salt creep. The waterfall effect kind of splashes a bit. I'd be interested to know how it works out for you.

They work. I'm using an Aquaclear on my MOWLR (mantis only with live rock), and have used them on FO tanks, and they're fine. If you keep the tank level high enough, most HOB filters won't splash too much. Keeps the noise down too.
