I've heard its very hard to sex oscars...
Do any of you know of a surefire way to determine their sex?

other then venting them you just have to just watch them spawn.From what I hear its hard

In all honesty the only surefire method is to wait for them to spawn. Even if they pair up you sometimes end up with two females.

If you want to have a much better chance of getting a compatable pair, you should buy a group of around 6 smaller oscars, maybe 3inches, and let a pair form. When the time comes, get rid of the others, and keep the pair. The only way to sex oscars outside of spawning, is by disection, which obviously isn't something you want to do.
