Hi Everyone.
I heard you are not supposed to dump saltwater down the house drains .. is it okay to dump in the yard or will it kill my grass?

Dumping it down the darin can cause corrosion problems with metal piping--if you don't flush several gallons of freshwater afterwards to clear the SW from the system. In the winter, you can save it and use it to remove ice from sidewalks and driveways.

I use the same bucket for changes from my FW and my nano SW, and then use that water for house plants and the gardnes--but there's about 30 gallons of FW and only 2-3 of SW, so the salt is pretty dilute by the time I use it. If you dump it on your garden/yard, water regularly, and spread it out, I don't think it would cause a problem. Of course, you'll want to check the pH preferences of the plants, and make sure you're not dealing with a plant that requires miccorhizoids (sp?) to prosper. The SW will alter the pH of the soil, in the long run, and could be lethal to some molds and fungi.

teh only thing is when i do changes it is about 10-15 gallons of saltwater.. and that is only a 10% water change..... Plus i made saltwater on Sat night `10 gallons and it seems to have a color (grayish green to it) and when i pulled the PH out of it it has grey scum around the intake..
So i was going to dump it and start fresh...

Larger volumes should go down the drain, and then run FW through the pipes for 3-4 minutes to flush. What could be in the bucket to create the scum?

the only other thing besides the heater is an air stone that was turned off. now i forgot to stir this batch and a poured the salt in a lot faster than i did the last batch i made which turned out fine.. so maybe it was just salt caked.. Okay i will dump it down the wash tub in the basement...
Thanks so much..
