I have noticed that the white pad traps A LOT of waste.

Should this pad be placed BEFORE the biomedia to reduce clogging of the biomedia ??

I have seen it packed with one white pad just beneath the bio media, and one right on the top. I think you should at least have 1 right at the top to trap the little bits still in the water so they don't clog your motor up.

Really depends on your cleaning schedule. Your biomedia will grow bacteria(while some dies) and build layers to the point that it will slough off, some will dislodge and flow with the water. If there is no pad after it to catch it, it will enter the tank. Provided there is enoug flow, it should get pulled back into the filter (or pre-filter). If you clean your filter monthly, the rinsing of biomedia will dislodge the dead layers. If you clean the filter 3 or more months at a time, you'll likely have dead layers of bacteria floating around in your tank (evil laugh) ha ha ha ha! . Not that this is anything to worry about though. :)
Personally I have the white pad b4 the biomedia, or at least the media I placed to be "biomedia".
