i am considering downsizeing my 75 to a 55. i feel i need a fresh start. any comments suggestions? do it, dont do it?

Hmmm...Well, I've never downsized. I started with a single 65, added a 29, swapped that out for another 65, and now have 2 120's. If you want to go with something smaller, why not try your hand at a nano? Or are you looking for less work?

My biggest concern would be the animals--fish that are comfy in a 75 won't always like being in a 55.

i already have a 10 gallon nano :) i think im gonna stick with the 75, just maybe add a fuge of some sorts to it, maybe upgrade the lighting, add more sand and lr etc. i think i really need to get my hands on an RO unit

adding a fuge

Adding a refugium is a great alternative to downsizing.I put a 30g long under my 55 with a few baffles siliconed in , used an old aquaclear 300 HOB with a skimmer tube and bulkhead drilled into the bottom for the intake, and put an aquaclear4000 powerhead with a ball valve for the return.Easy cheap and looks good. The added h2o volume really helped with the water quality.Alsothe addition of more LR and another DSB combined with the look and benifits of macro algae make it a way more fun and enjoyable way to keep yourself busy along with enhancing the quality of life in the main tank.My kids really enjoy looking at all the life in the fuge.I added some polifera, razor and chaeto to it and my pod population exploded. There is tons of other life in there that was in the sand that never had the chance to populate in the 55.Micro stars, feather dusters, even sponges will start poping up everwhere.I even put a mantis shrimp in my intake side,he loves it!!Hope you give it a try!!!

i am also considering a new salt mix. do you guys have any suggestions? does petsmart match their online price towards the big jugs of salt?

Petsmarts usually match everything for sale on both the website and the in the store. Just make sure you print out the website the same day you go into the store. Sometimes they can be picky I understand.

I'm finding out about this Petsmart scam (kidding, I mean bargain) a bit late in the game, but boy, am I making up for lost time...

i use redsea salt mix. it is what my LFS reccommendation. i was thinking about switching to instant ocean. seems to be cheaper than other brands, and available at many stores.
