Hello Everyone,

I have been offered a 56 Gallon Tank (Four foot by 18x18 inches) for $A300.00 bucks. This includes everything. An external power filter. Long light. Everything.

1. Is this a good deal?

2. I am having trouble convincing Home Command (Wife) and her favourite fish are the Tiger Barbs. How many can I get and What are good companions algae eaters etc. Any suggestions would be great.

Hmmm... well yes, that does sound good considering you could easily spent $700+ on a new 55 gallon set up. I mean, if you did everything right and bought the best of the best.

So, as long as this new tank and equipment is working properly, I would snatch it up... this could be a steal! ;)

I like to be organised and I will order the fish in at my LFS as they order especially for me. And notice the home command approval, I will need to know what to put in first!

where is the $700 figure coming from? i figure roughly:
$60 - tank
$40 - hood
$40 - two long lights at 20 apiece
$40 - filter
$40 - substrate
$20 - air pump
$50 - misc. driftwood, rocks, fake plants, gravel vac, air tube and airstone.

that is $290 for new, not including stand, live fish and plants, and any water conditioners, meds, food, test kits, all of which adds up to probably another 200 but i am assuming this stuff didn't come with it, i might be wrong about that though. so 300 or slighly more if i underestimated anything is probably about what i would expect to pay for the stuff if it was new.

It includes a stand and all the misc gear as well( I have heaps already.) $60 for a four foot tank?? What shop do you go to? The filter is an expensive outside cannister filter which was designed for up to 400 gallons.

What type of cannister filter is it, do you know? That makes a lot of difference right there.

alright, i didn't know the stand came with it, that is a big difference. stands are expensive!
