My banana plant has one stalk growing vertical. For the last week it has been about 3 inches in length. When I got home from work today I noticed it had grown another 3 inches since last night. I could hardly believe it.
On Tuesday I tested my water about an hour after a water change and it was
20g high
Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
pH 6.8
Nitrate 15
kH 4
gH 10
PO4 1.5 ppm
DIY CO2
2.25 wpg fluorescent lighting
I tested the water again today and everything was the same except
Nitrate 10
PO4 1ppm
My CO2 is just pumping through an air stone but yesterday I changed to a ceramic one and hooked it to the bottom of the tank. The bubbles are a lot finer and weave up though some cabomba almost dissolved as they hit the top of the tank.
Another thing I noticed is that ever since I planted my tank, about a month now, my quarzite laced granite rock started to get a coating of brown algae. My ottos would not go near it. I don't know if the rock left a bad taste in their mouth or if maybe they felt vulnerable being on a mainly white rock with their dark bodies. Or it could be the algae was not to their liking. Anyway this algae started receding a few days ago and is now almost gone.
So I guess my question is what caused my banana plant to suddenly spring into life and make my algae clear up?
