Hi everybody. I went to walmart today, and bought some "NoSalt" for dosing K. I glanced at the ingredients, but didn't really pay attention to them until I got home. Some of em worry me a tad. The ingredients are:
- Potassium Chloride - This is the reason I want it. Need a potassium source.
- Potassium Bitartrate - (Cream of tartar!) Now, I figure this won't harm anything, but what the heck is it doing in there? Taste?
- Adipic Acid - I couldn't find out much about this except that it used in the manufacture of PVC and Vinyl products.. (Eeek!) Should I be worried about this stuff?
- Fumaric Acid - (Blush.. I should have known this one from biology!) It is used in the manufacture of ATP and ADP in animals.. should be fine (I think)
- Silicone Dioxide - blah. Sand. Shouldn't do anything except feed diatoms (and perhaps prevent caking in my aquarium lol)
- Mineral Oil - Huh? Whats this doing in there? Will it harm fish? I realize it is probably in minute amounts, but I figured I'd ask.
Also: If potassium test kits are user un-friendly and/or inaccurate, how do you know when to add more?
