I have this convict and I'm not sure whether it is male or female. It has the trailing dorsal and anal fins of a male, but orange spots on its belly. I hear some male convicts are being bred with the orange. It is in with a female and there are eggs. Not sure whose as I noticed a tube coming out of the convict in question. Do males use a tube to fertilize the eggs? Both are guarding the eggs. Could I just have two females that have paired up? Oh and there is no orange on the back of the fish like there is on the female.

Female, both sexes can have trailing fins but only the female can get the orange markings.

Thats not true. I have two convicts, and they both have orange marks on the belly. THe female does have more, but the male has some. They have bred 3 times, so I know one is male and one is female. Im not sure what sex your convict is, but im saying that males can have onange spots.

Yeah, I have two females. I think I'll just let them live out their life together. I don't think they've caught on that there is a reason why their eggs don't hatch. I think they take turns laying them. If only convicts were capable of changing their sex

I think Akidoguy can provide a picture of a male with the orange markings. I'll also se if I can find one. But in general females get it but not always, some males can.
