I have a tank that's almost done being cycled. I'm doing it with live plants, so I ran the tank for a week, added one fish, waited another week, added another fish, and now I have probably another week's worth before I'm satisfied with my numbers to put anything else in the tank. Anyways.. the first fish I got was a Dwarf Gourami. The first 24 hours he was in the tank he just hid behind the log in the tank. After that he's been very social. Swimming to the front of the tank whenever I walk by, rushing to the top when I open the lid. After a week went by I figured he'd enjoy to have a companion in the tank so I went to the same store and got another Dwarf Gourami of the same size and I'm pretty sure from the same batch of fish. When I put him in the tank he did the same thing.. hid behind the log for a while... I've had him for a few days now, and the first DG I got will not let the 2nd one come out of the corner of the tank. i have a densely planted corner and the 1st DG makes the 2nd one stay down in the bottom of the corner. If the 2nd one tries to come out, he just gets chased around the tank and nipped at until he goes back into the corner. Everything I've read about DG's would never lead me to believe this is normal behavior?

Male Dwarf Gouramis (as well as other Anabantidae like 3-Spots and Paradise Fish) are territorial. If you can take the other gourami back, that'd probably be for the best. If you can't, here's something that may work: rearrange the tank decorations. basically, this forces your gouramis to stake out new territory. This is quite stressful for them- but it may eventually give the new guy a chance.

It's probably better for you and your tank to get some other non-anabantid tankmates, if possible. It'll be less stress for everyone.
