Hi:

I bought two small Blood Parrots about a week ago. Today, one of them has developed some small brown spots of discoloration on its fins and head. Can anyone tell me if this is something I should be worried about? Is it a disease of any kind? I saw this on some of the other BPs at the store and inquired about it. They said it was just natural discoloration, so I bought two of them that didn't have it, now one of mine does.

Thanks!

It could be just natural discoloration....or they could be juiced up on hormones and the hormones are starting to wear off. Another possibility is dying, but I certainly hope thats not the case. As long as the Parrots aren't showing any signs of distress they are most likely fine, my guess is that its just hormone treated fish to bring out colors and now since they aren't getting it anymore, its wearing off and their true colors are coming out. A lot of asian wholesale breeders do this so they fish are more attractive and sell quicker.

Mine did the same thing. They looked like ink splashed them. No worries though. They soon went back to normal and occassionally they still get the ink look.
