i have a red beta and i noticed i whiteish grey color on him but i did not pay much attention to it and i moved him to my 29 g tank but he kept getting nipped at and i put him back in his bowl and now my platys and sword tails dont hardly eat and the always rub against the bottom gravel and the rest on the bottom alot! and swim vertically (up and down) and i think the may have velvet disiese and how is the best way to treat it and i dont think it is ich though, but can also anybody post any pictures of velvet diesese????????????? also my male swordtail has lost some weight and also has lost some color and i also lost a molly last week. thanks

I don't have any pictures to post, but velvet is pretty easy to spot. Look carefully at your fish - do they look like they've been dusted with gold flecks? If so, they have velvet and you'll need to treat them with anti-parasitic medication such as formalin/malachite green. Other symptoms are clamping of fins (fins held tightly in against the body) and the fish may shimmy. If not, you're dealing with something other than velvet.
